Charnely, Emerson. THE FISHER'S GARLAND, FOR 1821-1845. Newcastle Emerson Charnley 1821-45 Very good+ Small 8vo. Complete run but for year 1826, two issues for 1824, the second titled "The Tyne Fisher's Farewell...", two issued dated 1842 and two issues dated 1844. Last three issues published by William Garret. Each with a woodcut vignette on its title pages, most by Thomas Bewick. Bound in half red morocco with cloth sides and marbled endpapers, t.e.g., the spine with gilt titles and gilt angling ornaments in the panels
"Commonly known as the 'Newcastle fisher's garlands.' They appeared later under the title, 'A Collection of right merrie garlands for north country anglers.' An edition with this title, edited by Joseph Crawhall in 1864, contains 21 additional garlands. Sixteen of he original garlands appear in the 'Couquet-dale fishing songs,' 1852, and nos i. and ii. are found in Pearson's 'Angler's garland,' 1870-71,." (Albee.
