Worlidge First edition Silk endpapers soiled, about half of the Greek key borders are missing, crown frayed, plates fine Folio (14 5/8" tall). 45 leaves. 37 of the leaves containing frontispiece and 181 (of 182) plates. Most plates are mounted 5 to the page. No text as issued. The plates are printed on gold satin from copper engravings. The frontispiece dated 1754 is a self portrait of Worlidge in a Rembrandt style cap and drawing the bust of Cicero. The plate of the Medusa is titled, the plate of Hercules slaying the lion is signed in the plate and dated 1757. The remaining plates are not titled. Bound in contemporary red straight-grained morocco with silk endpapers, a.e.g., the cover borders with gilt Greek key design on black with starburst onlays at the corners, the spine with gilt titles and onlaid starbursts in the panels, fancy denteles. The Greek borders and ornaments suggest an Edwards of Halifax binding
