Folio. Introductory material, plate list and index, with the plates accompanied by text for each. Frontispiece etching by Stothard, copper-engraved portrait, plate of coffin lid and the 142 listed plates. Altogether 144 (i.e. 146 plates - as the two plates for Bernard Brocas are not in the plate list). Many plates are tinted and several are hand-colored. Finely rebound in quarter brown morocco with marbled sides, t.e.g. the spine with gilt titles and floral panel ornaments and rules around the bands. Fine. Item #23372

We would surmise that the text leaf for the William Fitz-Alan plates is a cancel as the letterpress has a deeper bite than the others.
